UNDERSTANDING WHAT IS HAPPENING AT THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY - Emeka Ugwuonye Esq.

UNDERSTANDING WHAT IS HAPPENING AT THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

Since the past few hours, social media exploded with comments as Nigerians try to trapped with the events at the National Assembly with pictures of the members of the House of Representatives climbing over the gate to the National Assembly Complex. It is not for me to reason for you, but I shall list some of the points you should take into consideration when you analyse what is happening.

(1) Why would anybody try to lock the gates of the legislative building against the legislators? Isn't that where their offices are? If you are locked out of your office, what will you do? Stay away from your office or find any way possible to get into your office?

(2) Who locked them out?

(3) Which party has the majority in the House? Should that majority party be afraid of the House sitting?

(4) If the PDP has majority in the House, that should mean that PDP members should be able to remove the Speaker if the party members wanted. So, PDP should be worried about its members that are supporting the Speaker that belongs to the minority party.

(5) It is clear that those members who jumped over the gate are both from the APC and the PDP. So it is not something done by the opposition alone.

(6) What is the implication of this for the forthcoming election and for Jonathan's future in office? The country may not be able to conduct a hitch-free election. And the more controversial or violent the election the greater the probability that any government that emanates from the elections will lack legitimacy.

(7) Is it possible that we are witnessing the early manifestation of a spiral into violence by the country?

It may be better to think deeply about this and not rush into the standard mode of reaction, which is to blame the opposition or people from the North for making the country ungovernable. Indeed, the country is in a very fragile state and this is something I have been pointing at all this while, as I cried in the wilderness over Nigeria.

FUNNY BUT TRUE

“Never try to do anything that is outside of who you are. A forced smile is a sign of what feels wrong in your heart, so recognize it when it happens. Living a lie will reduce you to one.”

NIGERIA @ 54: IS THIS THE NATION YOU DREAMT OF?

I believe the fantasy world is better than the realism.

Don’t you think that if Sir Fredrick Lord Lugard had foresaw what would have been the outcome of the undeserved marriage he called Amalgamation of the northern and southern protectorates in 1914. He would not have presided over it. Today, to get divorced seems implausible

Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Tafawa Balewa, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Sir Ahmadu Bello and other nationalists that fought for Nigeria independence , wherever they are right now, they would agree with me that it was a mere Whimsical imagination that they laboured for.

Queen Elizabeth II hurriedly washed her hands off from Nigeria without benefits

Since that exit of the colonial masters, we have known no peace. The rich are getting richer, the poor poorer. Lots of lives are been lost carelessly. Disunity everywhere.

Take a look at the lyrics of our national anthem when we started and see if there is any fulfilment rather than opposite of what was composed

"Nigeria, We Hail Thee" (1960-1978)

Nigeria, we hail thee,
Our own dear native land,
Though tribe and tongue may differ,
In brotherhood we stand,
Nigerians all are proud to serve
Our sovereign Motherland.

Our flag shall be a symbol
That truth and justice reign,
In peace or battle honour'd,
And this we count as gain,
To hand on to our children
A banner without stain.

O God of all creation,
Grant this our one request,
Help us to build a nation
Where no man is oppressed,
And so with peace and plenty
Nigeria may be blessed.

Corruption is a major issue that adversely affects our economy

Corruption is a complex social, political and economic phenomenon that affects all countries. Corruption undermines democratic institutions, slows economic development and contributes to governmental instability. Corruption attacks the foundation of democratic institutions by distorting electoral processes, perverting the rule of law and creating bureaucratic quagmires whose only reason for existing is the soliciting of bribes. Economic development is stunted because foreign direct investment is discouraged and small businesses within the country often find it impossible to overcome the "start-up costs" required because of corruption.

No nation is devoid of corruption. But it seems Nigeria celebrates and honours it.

Now my question goes to these our nationalists whether dead or alive who fought for this independence, ,,,IS THIS THE NATION YOU DREAMT OF?

SERVICE TO THE NATION.

May I use this opportunity to congratulate all passing out corps members (Batch B) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) A journey that seems very uncertain in the beginning is coming to a joyful end. Though the scheme has lost its original aims and objectives yet it is a desired activity for every fresh Nigerian graduate that falls within the age limit of 30 years “Your service to the nation will never be forgotten,” “the highest standards of ethics and conduct exhibited by some of you will go a long way both as a positive reflection on peaceful co-existence of Nigerians and to inspire our future leaders to do great things.”

We thank God for both the good and bad experiences you had in course of your service to the nation. Now, you about entering the labour work force enter the real world; get a job, commensurate with your talents. Face the life after service. Have the world treat you for yourself, not your title. May you utilize the positive experiences gained within this service years to better yourself and humanity.

Finally, as I congratulate you all for obeying the clarion call, permit me to dedicate this piece to my adorable, Pat Mgbechi Elebochi. Nnem, you served under the sun and in the rain. With dedication and selflesness. I doff my cap for you. Bravo! Like the Germans would say “Bis bann” See you soon!

PRAYER FOR NIGERIA IN DISTRESS

All powerful and merciful Father, You are the God of Justice, Love and Peace. You rule over all the Nations on earth. Power and Might are in Your hands and No one can withstand You.

We present Our country Nigeria before You. We praise and thank You for You are the source of all We have and are. We are sorry for all the sins We have committed and for the good deeds We failed to do. In Your Loving forgiveness, keep Us safe from the punishments We deserve. Lord, We are weighed down not only by uncertainties, but also by moral, economic and political problems.

Listen to the cries of your people who confidently turn to you. God of infinite goodness, Our strength in adversity, Our health in weakness, Our comfort in sorrow, Be merciful to Us Your people. Spare this Nation Nigeria from chaos, anarchy and doom. Bless Us with your kingdom of Justice, Love and Peace.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

THE OIL - BONE OF CONTENTION

Let's tell our selves the truth. There is no unity in Nigeria. The amalgamation was done for administrative convenience of the colonial masters. Since the centre cannot hold again, can we leave in peace for what inheritance do we have in Mohammed neither do we share common belief with Boko haram and their sharia. The unity we are talking about is the petroleum. So let NIGER DELTA come up to defend their birth right.

Just once the rightful owner of the resources assumed office, these animals are trying to make him uncomfortable.

Anywhere Sir Lord Lugard and his administrators are now, they will be regretting for bringing together mutually incompatibles. Ojukwu saw this in time but "sabos" had their ways. Tell me what the north and south has in common, different climate, religion, dressing, language, custom, etc.

Now the common law holding us together, the boko haram are calling for Sharia. You see! Losing lives everyday is a thing of joy to this sect in the name of religion. Who are these boko haram, are they not living among us? Are they spirits? Are they above the law? Don't we have their equivalents in the south? If they are animals, can't they be tamed?

I am weeping for Nigeria. Nothing good can come out of this nation. We are peace keepers in other countries while we have porous security. Any village a grasshopper kills an elephant is not habitable. If Abuja, the nation's seat of power has fallen to Boko Haram, let's surrender to them but if the federal troop is still in control, let them smash these vagabonds. What other sample do the government need to know that these guys mean business? The visited the police and UN offices during working hours to show that they are not cowards. Repeated bombing of Nyanya is not a child's play. Abduction of more than 230 Chibok Girls by  these terrorists is pure evil and shows you how heartless they are. Going by there logistics, even Aso Rock is not safe.

Let's the President know that he's the target, when they must have dislodged his administration, his elimination won't be a surprise. Now, No matter of urgent importance to the nation should exceed this security flaws. GEJ, no need extending goodwill to enemies of progress, if you cannot deal with them, better lose the wild dogs in the creeks to come forward. He who lives by the sword shall die by the sword. 1914 - 2014 is enough for the amalgamation, let's try disintegration come 2015.

O GOD, OUR HELP IN AGES PAST

O GOD, OUR HELP IN AGES PAST!

1. O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.

2. Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.

3. Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.

4. A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.

5. Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.

6. O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
And our eternal home
